The principal resigning. The hot topic of discussion among forum boards all over Singapore, and with a flurry of letters written in to the forum pages of all major newspapers. Dozens of articles writen on it(ok, maybe about ten, but still a lot). For those not in the loop, a principal hit a student with a soft cover book, then resigned. That's what happened in a nutshell. There were many more letters supporting the principal, saying how in the 'old days' when you got punished by your teacher, you went home and got whacked even more. Now, we have spoilt brats who dare their teacher to punish them, threatening to lodge a complaint, and their parents support them all the way.

Like some of the writers in the Forum pages in the Straits Times, i agree that the principal had to resign. He had no choice. He lost his temper, and physical violence is a no-no nowadays. But hey, kids are becomming brats. I hear horror stories comming in in The New Paper, TODAY, STREATS about how horrible and disrespectful students are nowadays. Don't have to say my parents time... even my time in secondary school but 5 years back had much, much better discipline.

But my take is this. You don't need physical punishment to have students fear you. In San Yu, our most effective discipline master was a man by the name of Mr Kenneth Chee. Now, this man never resorted to physical punishment. But students feared him like the devil himself. When he's teaching, he's a wonderfully funny person, able to make even A Maths and Physics class interesting. But step outside the rules of the school.. and boy, you're in for it. His words probably are much more effective than a slap on the face. They can cut even the most rebellious of students, keeping them in line. I have personally seen it happen. He doesn't insult you, but the words just cut. That, my friends, is what a real teacher is about. Its someone i wanna be like if i ever become a teacher.

Rebecca Loos. The woman who shagged David Beckham. She is having her own 2 hour TV special comming this Saturday. What's up with that? She didn't act in any blockbuster movie.. she isn't a war hero, or a victim of some great tragedy. She didn't win any sporting events, nor is a politician. So what in the world did she do to deserve a 2 hour special? She did absolutely NOTHING but shag David Beckham, and she's earning hundreds of thousands of dollars selling her story to the tabloids and newspapers and TV interviews. Its crazy. What is the world comming to? The TV networks will buy anything nowadays. Who in the WORLD would want to watch a woman tell, for 2 hours, when, where, how and why she shagged David Beckham??? What kind of people are so perverted and kaypoh that they'll want to watch a show like that?

Oh yeah.. me.
